A town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, Milton is an affluent suburb of the city of Boston. With an estimated population of more than 27,000 residents, it has been listed on Money Magazine’s annual “Best Places to Live” list in 2007, 2009 and 2011, making it to the 7th, 5th and 2nd spot respectively.
The birthplace of architect Buckminster Fuller and former President of the United States George H. W. Bush, Milton lies between the Blue Hills and Neponset River. It’s bordered by the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Quincy, Randolph and Canton, and is conveniently located off interstate 93, interstate 95 and route 128.
Milton is home to at least twenty-seven districts or sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the most prominent include Suffolk Resolves House, Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory, Granite Railway, Captain Robert Bennet Forbes House, Houghton’s Pond and Governor Hutchinson’s Field.
For recreation, residents head to Cunningham Park - one of Milton’s largest public parks. The Blue Hills Reservation is the perfect place for a ski trip, picnic or hike during the winter season. Houghton’s Pond, also nestled in the Blue Hills Reservation, offers activities like swimming, hiking, softball, fishing, skiing, horseback riding and picnicking.
A number of local restaurants provide residents with a wide variety of foods, while 88 Wharf and Abey Park offer a full bar. As for education, six public schools serve the town of Milton. This includes four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. There are also a few private schools serving the students of the town.
Milton receives 50 inches of rainfall and 63 inches of snowfall per year.
