A town situated in Barnstable County in the state of Massachusetts, Falmouth has an estimated population of more than 31,600 residents, making it Cape Cod’s second largest municipality after the Town of Barnstable. Falmouth is made up of eight villages, which include Woods Hole, East Falmouth, West Falmouth, Falmouth Village, Teaticket, Waquoit, North Falmouth and Hatchville.
Several scientific organizations are housed in the village of Woods Hole such as the Marine Biological Laboratory, the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the Woods Hole Research Center. Falmouth is home to seven historic districts, four of which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Furthermore, ten individual sites in Falmouth are also listed on the National Register. The town is connected to the Massachusetts Route 28 and a daily ferry service connects the residents and tourists to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. While the nearest regional airport is in Hyannis, there is a private airpark located in East Falmouth.
The Arnie Allen Diamond hosts games of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The Falmouth Road Race, which is held annually, attracts more than 10,000 runners from around the world. Moreover, the town has a vibrant theater community, with the Highfield Theatre, Cape Cod Theatre Project and Falmouth Theatre Guild offering entertaining performances.
As far as education is concerned, the town’s public school system enrolls around 4,500 students and encompasses four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school that serve the student population. A U.S. military training camp of environmental and economic importance is also located in the town of Falmouth.
The town receives 49 inches of rainfall and 36 inches of snowfall per year.
